Why Family Field Trip Fun?

Me

My name is Megan Jorgensen. I am a stay-at-home mom of three. I taught in the public elementary schools for 10 years in Virginia and Utah before starting my family. Three things I love include my family, learning for myself and learning with others. Put those three things together and you have a life filled with family field trips. Everywhere we go and everything we do is a learning experience for me and my family. It thrills me to watch the minds of my children work as they discover and contemplate new things. It brings joy to my heart, when they can make connections to things we’ve talked about before and implement it in a new situation, . In talking with other moms, I realized that not everyone feels as empowered to teach their children as I do and I felt compelled to do something. We, as parents, are our children’s first and most important teacher and I want to help all parents develop the resources and strategies they want and need to fulfill that most precious role of teacher.

My Values

I value the role of being a parent. There are many things we can do with our time and I feel that being a parent is the most important. There are many ways to parent well and many books and philosophies that can be followed and implemented. As a formerly licensed educator, I want to focus on the teaching part of parenthood.

I believe that everything we do with our children is a teaching moment, whether it is deliberate or not is based on many factors.

My goal is to help parents feel more empowered in their children’s educational journey so they can feel like the guiding force of their children’s learning and not tossed about by the decrees of others. I love the school system and I feel it does a lot of good and is a great resource in helping me to teach my children, but it is a resource, I am their first teacher. Now, while I am my children’s first teacher I recognize I need help. I need knowledge and a community.

I value others. I value the empowerment gathering together, sharing opinions, expertise, experiences and friendship affords me and my family.

Mission

Family Field Trip Fun empowers parents to be deliberate in teaching and bonding with their children through educational means. We do this by sharing ideas and creating a community to increase our own knowledge and skill set so we can pass it on to our children.
